Finals hopes dashed

Adam Arnold made handy runs in B1 Grade.

Ocean Grove’s A1 Grade finals hopes were officially killed off after losing to Queenscliff in round 12.

The Grubbers are three wins and percentage behind Barrabool with two rounds to go.

And with games against the top two sides to come, it only gets more difficult.

A score of 111 on day was not enough and the Coutas were untroubled in passing the total just three wickets down.

Daniel Stott and Frank Mileto both made fifties for Queenscliff, which will also miss this season’s finals.

It’s a different story in B1 Grade with Ocean Grove in second spot on the ladder after thrashing Portarlington.

Luke Morrison was the star on day one with a superb unbeaten 131 from 139 deliveries while Adam Arnold made 56 and Noah Brooks 54 and Ned Thorley smacked 43 not out from 36 and Craig Byron 31 from 34 in a massive total of 6/336.

Portarlington’s Buckley Hickey then made a wonderful 129 not out from 193 balls in a class innings, but the Demons were dismissed for a well-made 242 with Byron grabbing three wickets.

In C Grade, Ocean Grove held onto second position on the ladder with a big win against Jan Juc.

Greg Scarpa (107 retired) made another century for Grove while Troy Wiseman enjoyed his time at the crease with 69 and Adam Spiby made 40 in the large score of 5/339.

Matt Bellingham and Will Finn each took three wickets to have Jan Juc all out for 91, which allowed the Grubbers to try for an unlikely outright win, but the Sharks finished at 3/46.

The D Grade side has turned its fortunes around with consecutive wins.

Xavier Kiddle made 95 in round 13 while Jacob Taylor made 66 in round 14.
