Portarlington started the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association A2 Grade season in fine style with a thrilling win against Winchelsea.

Winch won the toss and batted first with Ashley Hubbert scoring a fine 76 from 107 deliveries on the way to a team total of 7/165 from 40 overs.

Brody Andrew bowled well for Port, taking 2/22 from eight tidy overs.

Skipper David Bullock (15) and Christian Hewett (34) got things off to a bright start for Port with a 46-run opening stand, but at 6/108, things were looking much worse.

Ash Gillet stepped up in the middle order with 26 and Blake Dobbin’s valuable 43 not out got the Demons home with two wickets and an over to spare.

Hubbert capped off a huge game with 4/38 for eight for Winch.

Wallington would consider itself unlucky with rain ruining its chance of an opening round win against Barwon Heads.

At 7/66 Wallington was in deep trouble, but a 65-run stand between skipper Damien Biemans (58) and newcomer Muhammad Khan (43) who blasted six sixes, got the score up to a very respectable 198.

New-ball bowlers Jack Johnstone and James Ponsford each took three wickets for the Seagulls.

At 1/64, the Heads were on track and with Charlie Hurst and Darcy Hewett each making 32 later in the innings, the game looked like being a thriller.

However, rain ruined any chance of a result, with Barwon Heads still needing 54 runs with just three wickets and 56 balls remaining.

Davinder Singh grabbed three wickets for Wallington.

Rain also ruined the Drysdale vs Armstrong Creek encounter with Drysdale poised for victory.

Dylan Flanagan made a superb unbeaten 94 from 103 for the Titans in their final score of 4/180 while Bailey Sykes grabbed three poles for Drysdale.

At 5/128 with 10 overs still remaining, Drysdale was in the box seat for victory when Mother Nature intervened. Nick Hallam made a fine 60 and Peter Davidson was not out on 37.

Little River eased past Newcomb by 110 runs.

The Redbacks made 171 thanks mainly to brilliant 86 not out from Luke Wright, who bludgeoned seven fours and five sixes.

Brendan Sheedy took 4/18 for Newcomb and looks set for another bountiful season.

In reply, Newcomb was bowled out for 61 with only Shaun Johnson (28) and Andrew Doyle (20) reaching double figures.

Wright completed an undisputed player-of-the-match performance with 5/10 from eight overs for Little River.
