Surf comp cancelled

Surfing Victoria and Rip Curl have cancelled the upcoming Rip Curl GromSearch at Jan Juc due to the ongoing COVID19 concerns in Victoria and on the local Surf Coast region.

The event was due to be held on January 13 and 14 (after moving from the original dates of September 18 and 19). Both decisions have been made due to Covid related considerations.

With the Covid situation increasing nationally, through Victoria, as well as locally on the Surf Coast, organisers have opted to avoid any further exposure to competitors, families, and local residents by holding the event.

“It’s a difficult decision for us. We want to run the GromSearch so kids can surf with their friends, but we’re always mindful of the health and safety of competitors and of the best approach in the communities where we run,” Mark Flanagan, Rip Curl Team and Events manager, said.

All competitors will receive a full refund in the coming weeks.

Further information will be distributed to competitors on selection for the National Final to be held later in the year.
