Ocean Grove’s Tyson Cromie is the 2025 Australian Champion after winning the prestigious bowls event in Devonport.
Cromie had two early wins in his section against Darwin’s Trystan Smallacombe 25-11 and Adelaide’s Jonathan Voigt 25-18, before succumbing to New South Wales’ Cody Packer 19-25.
However, his shot difference was enough to see him finish on top of the section and ensure a spot in the gold medal playoff.
Western Australia’s Ben Leggett continued his hot 2025 form, defeating Tasmania’s Bailey Bellchambers in a timed out thriller 24-23 and easily accounting for Australian Capital Territory’s Mac McLean 25-5 to book his spot in the gold medal decider.
In the final, scores were level at 11 a piece before the Ocean Grove prodigy started to gain the slight edge in the race to 25 shots.
A two to take Cromie 19-14 in front proved pivotal as he ran away with two threes to win the gold medal 25-16, with Leggett receiving the silver medal.
