The world’s favourite ogre comes to town this summer for a run of five performances over the new year.
Having been enjoyed by audiences the world over since 2008, Shrek the Musical comes to Geelong for the first time as part of its 2025-26 national tour.
Based on the Academy Award-winning 2001 film starring Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, Shrek the Musical is a high-energy, laugh-out-loud production celebrating the themes of love, appearance vs reality and self-acceptance.
Part fairytale, part romance, the Tony Award-winning musical follows the story of an irascible ogre turned unlikely hero who takes up the quest to save a feisty princess.
With irreppressible sidekick Donkey by his side, Shrek experiences a life-changing journey that proves it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Producer Layton Lillas said the show was the perfect holiday experience for audiences of all ages.
“Our version of Shrek the Musical features a talented professional cast and crew of 40,” he said.
“The set alone is worth over $2 million and was used on both the UK and American tours, it comes with a dragon that has its own 40-foot shipping container…believe me everyone who comes will be blown away.”
Shrek the Musical is at Geelong Arts Centre from 31 December to 3 January. Visit geelongartscentre.org.au/whats-on/all-events/shrek-the-musical for tickets and more information.
