Learning through play

A young patron shows his approval.

PEOPLE often ask me what do you love about Ocean Grove Toy Library and that is easy. I joined primarily for me as a young mum with three boys and only just moved to Ocean Grove it was the perfect social introduction and I can honestly say I have made some wonderful friends from this.
Secondly, the toy library allows my boys and all the other families in our beautiful area the opportunity to access over 500 toys of various categories. This all for the price of one toy per year – I just can’t see anything wrong with it!
Ocean Grove Toy Library has provided this service for over 35 years and we are striving hard to improve and expand all the time. With the move into the Boorai Centre and our purpose-built space it has been such a great experience that we now can offer the use of the toys to playgroups, occasional care and child care and we are always looking for more opportunities.
Over the past 12 months, Ocean Grove Toy Library has been successful in a number of grants which has allowed for personalised murals by local artist Liz McGrath, new storage and shelving, collaborations with Bethany, Sandpipers and allied health professionals, events such as ‘Say “Hello” to Our Community’ and recently World Play Day, and of course loads of new durable specialised toys.
Children learn through play, its nature’s way of making it fun! We invite everyone to come along to a session on Thursday 4pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-11am and join us in ‘sharing a world of play’.
