Young Grubbers through to grand final

Ocean Grove’s Under 18 Division 1 side will get the chance to play on GMHBA Stadium on Friday after winning their way through to the grand final in the preliminary final.

The Grubbers will play South Barwon starting at 9.15am after beating Torquay in the prelim by 16 points.

In a low-scoring first half, the Grubbers kept Torquay goalless to lead by 14 points and by nine at the last break.

Byron Hansford booting the opening goal of the final term to stretch the margin out to 14 points and Gus McCartney made it 22 points the difference at the 12-minute mark.

Torquay goaled in the 17th minute to cut the deficit to 15 points, but Grove held on to earn a ticket to the grand final this Friday.

Hansford was the only dual goalkicker for the day with two while Luke O’Brien was best while Bohdi Hateley continued his excellent season with a fine performance.
