Grove brave in defeat

UNDER 16 DIVISION 1

It wasn’t to be for Ocean Grove Beaton in the Under 16 Division 1 grand final, but that shouldn’t take away from what has been a successful season.

The Grubbers were defeated by Geelong Amateur at Lara on Sunday after both sides finished the season equal on wins in the home and away season.

A huge wave of support greeted the girls as they ran onto the ground and in windy conditions, they fought until the end, going down 8 to 17.

Ocean Grove’s defence was colossal all day and limiting the powerful Ammos side to 17 points was one of the highlights of the game.

The Grubbers won their way through to the decider with a 12-point preliminary final win against St Mary’s with Winter Davies, Holly Confoy, Charli Janezic, Allison Ralton, Tess Wolfe and Chloe Dodds best players.

Bella Hill was dominant in the midfield for Ammos and was awarded best afield while defender Sophie Dinneen was superb and Emily Ramsay used the ball all day and booted the sealer just before the final siren.

Grovedale skipper Emily Worpel was her usual dependable self in defence and Lauren French proved a valuable ally down back.
