Ocean Grove Voice news editor Justin Flynn rates every player in the BPCA A1 Grade grand final.

Ocean Grove

Paul Jubber: The skipper was unbeaten at the end when Scholtz hit the winning runs. He came in when things needed a steady head and delivered.

Sam Jubber: Bowled some important overs on day one and picked up two vital wickets. Bowled nicely to one side of the wicket. Made a valuable 14 with the bat when runs were at a premium.

Huon Bertino: Very good behind the stumps as usual. Got a 2nd ball duck in the run chase, but he’s not the first to be trapped in front from a Daisy Kerr full ball.

Fletcher Long: Will learn a lot from the experience. Was good in the field and the young leggy-turned-batsman will offer a lot in the years to come.

Michael Kenneady: Looked in complete control before playing an ambitious shot late on day one. Still, the master batsmen steadied the side with Anton Scholtz after two quick wickets, and in a small run chase, his contribution was important.

Tom Beasley: What a finals series the young offie has had. A dozen wickets, two hauls of six-for, and a player-of-the-match performance. Bowled with flight and accuracy in a truly brilliant effort. What a refreshing sight it is to see an offie giving the ball some air. Outstanding performance and outstanding finals series.

Matt Caulfield: Just the eight overs, but took the prize wicket of Ned Cooper and halted the run rate. Had a great season.

Anton Sholtz: Batted beautifully on day one to walk into the sheds unbeaten on 25. Played some crisp drives and held the innings together. Carried that form into day two and was easily the game’s best batsman with 77 not out. A superb, experienced and polished performance.

Lindon Giuffrida: Took the early wicket of Jacimovic and although he only bowled one spell, he did his job. He’s all heart this bloke.

Michael Thornton: Didn’t have to do much. Was listed to come in at No 9 and didn’t bowl. Played 16 games in A1 this season, however, and earned his spot in the side.

Shaun Fankhauser: Fielded well and had to survive a torrid few overs at the end of day one. Handy innings on day two when he looked in sparkling form before falling for a well-compiled 16.

Anglesea

Dale Kerr: Bowled with pace and fire and made life very uncomfortable for the Grove top order. Was not happy at being given out stumped for five. In the end, the BPCA’s best player just didn’t have enough runs to play with.

Ned Cooper: The gun left-hander looked untroubled at 16 from 55 deliveries, but then chased a drive from Caulfield and was well caught by Huon Bertino.

Brett Venables: Made 32 from 99 balls at No 3 and looked to be in fine form before slightly lofting an off-drive just after tea. Bowled some tidy overs on day two.

Tyron Norman: Tidy as ever behind the pegs, but would be disappointed at his dismissal when he tried to loft Beasley into the outfield. His wicket-keeping was excellent.

Ky Eskrigge: It must be a tough gig coming on second over after Dale Kerr has bowled, but the youngster was not over awed in the slightest. Was tight and bowled well. 16 wickets for the season is a good platform for him going forward. Not used on day two, however.

Tyler Ditloff: Gave the innings a new lease of life with some beautiful straight hitting. Unfortunately his teammates couldn’t stick around for him. Picked up the late wicket of Kenneady on day one and bowled well on day two. Had a great game.

Steve Jacimovic: Made six opening the innings, but had a fine season with almost 400 runs

Darcy Cooper: Looked in terrific touch with some seriously hard off drives, and got his way to 30 effortlessly before falling to Sam Jubber.

Nick Swain: Came in at No 10 and played well, sticking around for Ditloff in a handy 25-run ninth-wicket partnership. Played a shot he would like to take back though. He took a big wicket on day two.

Cian Foster: Made a first-ball duck and bowled two overs on day one.

Simon Umbers: Was trapped lbw for a duck, but the youngster will have learned a lot from the game.
