Ocean Grove pair Jenny Keep and Matt Flapper excelled at the recent Australian Sides Championships at Club Tweed.
Jenny Keep represented Victoria in the State Senior Sides winning the overall gold medal as well as skipper of the best rink for the series.
Flapper was named the Victorian open men’s player of the series.
Young gun Maya Rees, from Drysdale, also featured in the Victorian Under 18 team.
Pairs champs
Ocean Grove’s Faye Richardson and Marg White are the Geelong Bowls Region Pairs Champions while Peter Loe and Brad Pavey took out the men’s. Zak Abro and Mick West were runners-up.
Milestones aplenty
There have been plenty of milestones for Ocean Grove recently.
Rod Swan played his 500th game for the club last weekend while Mick West brought up his 300th game milestone.
Matt Ellul played his 100th game for Grove after returning to the club from Altona.
Winning start
Ocean Grove got off to a winning start in the GBR Premier Division opener on October 26.
The Grovers defeated City of Geelong 88 to 72 with Peter Loe, Craig Rippon, Owen Clark and Tony Joel winning their rink by 17 shots.
Grove defeated Bareena in Division 1 by nine shots while Division 3 lost to Belmont by 29.
The Division 6 team lost a close on by three to Geelong while Division 7 returned from Drysdale with a 95 to 70 win led by Paul Barker, Chris Harling, Kevin Richards and John Witney on rink four, 30 to 13.
The Division 9s almost cracked the ton with a 99 to 70 win against Belmont. A 10-shot win to Peter Eberle, Brian Grieve, Alexandra Kuschert and Peter Kuschert.
Midweek victory
Ocean Grove returned home from Torquay with a hard-fought six-shot win in Division 1 Midweek.
Division 2 defeated Clifton Springs, Portarlington was way too good for Division 4 and Leopold won by 17 in Division 5.
City of Geelong won comfortably in Division 6, but Grove won by 10 against Highton in Division 7.
