Jones fall short of maiden ton

Ocean Grove’s English import Zac Jones came agonisingly close to a century in his third A1 Grade game in round 4 against Anglesea.

Jones was run out for 99 from just 79 deliveries during Ocean Grove’s innings of 9/170.

Jones whacked 12 fours and three sixes in a lone hand with the Grubbers’ next highest scorer making just 12.

Former Grove all-rounder Mick Thornton took 3/27 for his new club.

Anglesea got the runs with seven wickets and nine balls to spare thanks to a fine 81 from Will Huby.

The Grubbers are still searching for their first win of the campaign and take on Drysdale in the first two-day match of the season in round 5.

Ocean Grove turned the tables in B1 Grade with a four-wicket win against Anglesea.

Two wickets each to Flynn Hardiman and Robbie Rutley restricted the Seas to 7/139.

Ben Hanson then played well to make an unbeaten 49 from 85 balls although at 5/83, it was anyone’s game.

Captain Billy Foord-Engelsman (15) and Hardiman (12 not out) dug in with Hanson to get Grove over the line with three overs to spare.

Greg Scarpa made 75 in Ocean Grove’s C1 Grade win against St Leonards.

The Grubbers set the Saints 171 to win with Stefan Zervides bowling well taking three wickets.

Marty Frankovic made 41 and fellow opener Adrian Caudullo 30 for the Saints, but four wickets to Darren Craig and three Will Finn were enough to win the game by 16 runs.

After being forced to forfeit its round 2 D Grade clash, Ocean Grove put in a spirited performance against Jan Juc.

Chris Huxtable (49) top scored for the Sharks in their total of 8/199 while Shannon LeBel took two wickets for Grove.

Joseph McDonald (37), Zack Carmody (32) and LeBel (31) played well, but Grove fell 17 runs short with Jackson Downey snaring four wickets for Jan Juc.
