Newcomb brought Ocean Grove back down to earth with an impressive win on Saturday.

Star forward Jack Duke booted six goals to take his tally to 66 this season and is a lock at full forward in the team of the year.

The Power winning their second game of the season 13.13(91) to 7.9(51).

Newcomb led at every break although there was a comeback opportunity at three quarter time when Grove was down by 18.

But it never came as Newcomb powered away to score 4.6 to 1.2 for a deserved victory.

Ryan Jackman and the ever consistent Andrew Steele were best for Newcomb.

Craig Goodger continued his good form for the Grubbers while consistent defender Glenn Campbell played well, but the team couldn’t replicate last week’s stunning win against Ammos.

Modewarre is back in the top five after an impressive win at Barwon Heads 12.12(84) to 7.8(50).

Tom Hornsey was thrown into the ruck with immediate dividends and Connor Joseph was a constant threat up forward with five majors.

The Heads, like Modda, were undermanned. However they were also lacklustre and find themselves outside the top five with Queenscliff and Torquay to come.

Drysdale has hit form at exactly the right time.

A powerhouse 19.15(129) to 6.6(42) against second placed Geelong Amateur strengthened their finals, and premiership, hopes.

Mitch McGuire was superb in defence while ruckman Matt Piggott and star mid Ben Fennell (four goals) were best for the resurgent Hawks.

Midfielder Blake Sutterby was Ammos’ best, but the side’s form is worrying. A tough game against Anglesea awaits and Newcomb is no easybeat in the final round for the third-placed side.

Torquay thrashed Queenscliff by 104 points, 20.13(133) to 4.5(29).

Tom Hoper had booted one goal all season going into the game and kicked eight in a superb display for the flag favourites.

With top spot wrapped up, the Tigers face Portarlington and Barwon Heads in the remaining two rounds.

The Coutas have Barwon Heads and Portarlington and would love nothing more than to end the Seagulls’ finals hopes this weekend.

Anglesea is quietly going about its business and is now second on the ladder after a 13.20(98) to 8.4(52) win against Portarlington.

Simon Umbers starred with five goals for the Roos and with Ammos and Ocean Grove to come, should be able to lock away the double chance.

Port’s season of improvement has been there for all to see. The Demons have a tough one against Torquay this week, but finish off with Queenscliff in what will be their best chance for win number four.
