Sam’s shield win for St Joeys

YOUNG Ocean Grove local Sam Walsh lived out a boyhood dream to play in St Joseph’s College Geelong’s Herald Sun Shield premiership triumph at the MCG on Saturday.
St Joseph’s Geelong 7.17 (59) defeated St Patrick’s Ballarat 8.10 (58) in a one-point thriller in the decider.
The win broke St Patrick’s six-year dominance in the shield competition.
The last time St Joseph’s won the shield was back in 2006.
Sam is the eldest son of Ocean Grove senior coach Wayne Walsh.
The promising teenager is also a gifted cricketer and played A Grade cricket at Collendina last season.
