Ocean Grove defeated Queenscliff by 13 points on Saturday and perhaps, just perhaps, its Bellarine Football League finals hopes are completely extinguished just yet.

While it would take a monumental effort to snag fifth spot, the Grubbers turned in a gutsy display in front of their home fans to win 9.10(64) to 6.15(51).

Ocean Grove led at every change and with James Paterson booting three goals to take his season’s tally to 23, it was a win to savour.

Tom Chalkey and Jayden McHenry were also good for Ocean Grove.

The loss was a costly one for Queenscliff.

It slipped out of the top five and faces a huge task against the undefeated Drysdale this Saturday.

Barwon Heads put a two-game buffer between it in third place and Modewarre in fourth.

In a hard slog, the Seagulls prevailed by 36 points and kept Modda goalless in the first half.

Ryan Harvey, Mitchell Phelps and Braeden Eddy (three goals) led the way for the impressive Seagulls while Douglas Beames and Morgan Fenton could hold their heads high for Modewarre.

Geelong Amateur propelled itself back into the five with a 15-point win against a gutsy Newcomb.

A five-goal third term gave Ammos a 21-point lead at the last break.

Max Hungerford booted four for Ammos while Andrew Steele did the same for the Power.

Torquay was never troubled by Anglesea, cruising to a 77-point victory to keep the pressure on Drysdale.

Star midfielder James Darke was best afield while Callum Currie and Tom Grace each kicked three for Torquay.

Simon Umbers and Sam Leeds battled away for Anglesea.

Drysdale celebrated Big Freeze day with a 191-point win against Portarlington.

Mat Hebbard kicked nine for the Hawks while Jarrod Garth kicked six and James Breust four.

Jake Cummins and Shane Wiffen played their hearts out for the Demons.
