SOUL going strong

SOUL Longboard Club ran its second club day for the year at 13th Beach.

Contest director Brian Tucker checked out the conditions early and the decision was made to move to the break known as Boings.

Surfers were greeted with a small but consistent easterly swell that had good scoring potential.

Most surfers were doing two divisions so it was important to keep heats moving through quickly and the judging table was a hive of activity.

Secretary Chad was on the PA and keeping everyone moving and entertained in his usual style.

The club has had a focus on getting more juniors involved by letting them surf on boards that may not strictly be longboards and providing a free drink and sausage. It seems to paying off as all the junior boys and girls heats were full to capacity and at least six new family members.

“This club has always promoted its self as a family friendly club and we are well placed in the community to provide a safe and fun place to get together with family and friends and have a surf,” president Andrew Brown said.

“It’s a great way to get to know other families and surfers who you see around the beach and surf with during the year.”

By 5pm the day was done and presentations held in the car park, everyone was worn out after a great day’s surfing.

Next club day is 13 April. Meet Ocean Grove Main Beach 7am.
