Rotary winners named

WINNERS: Rotary Community Awards winners Ned McLarmon, Mitchell Cirillo, Stephen Draper and Bill Harrison.

Hendry Cycles won the coveted Small Business Award at Rotary’s Community Awards.

Hendry Cycles was judged the best small business for its outstanding commitment to customer service and its efforts in employing and training disadvantaged youth.

Hendry Cycles is also involved in sponsorship of under privileged communities in Timor-Leste and has a great understanding of what’s needed to reduce our carbon footprint.

Managing Director Stephen Draper accepted the award.

Napona was the other finalist.

Volunteer of the Year went to Bill Harrison.

Formerly a board member of the Geelong Football Umpire’s League, Bill was elected to the board in 2006 where he took on the responsibility of managing the recruitment, skills development and welfare of approximately 350 umpires.

Bill retired from the board in 2018.

He was also instrumental in setting up AUSKICK in Ocean Grove.

Bill is still umpiring for the Geelong League’s Under 19s and is secretary of the Begola Wetlands Group.

The other very worthy finalist was Janice Nation, who was instrumental in starting up the Ocean Grove VIEW club in 2011.

VIEW raises money to support the Smith Family helping disadvantaged children in school’s programs.

Apprentice of the Year went to Mitchell Cirillo from Cromer Builders.

Mitchell is in his 3rd year of a carpentry apprenticeship.

He has shown outstanding ability and work ethic.

His goal is to finish his apprenticeship and then obtain a builder’s licence.

The other finalist was Mitchell Watson from Van Loons Nursery.

Mitchell has developed an excellent knowledge of horticulture and displays a professional approach to customers.

Pride of Workmanship Award is nominated by the employer who feels his or her employee shows exceptional ability in a number of areas.

Ned McLarmon from Cromer Builders was the recipient.

He is a site supervisor who goes above and beyond what is expected for both Cromer Builders and their clients.

The second finalist was Kelsey Bourke from Bakers Delight Ocean Grove Marketplace who demonstrates a ‘can do’ approach to everything she does.
