WHEN a lot of people think of St Leonards (and Indented Head), they immediately think ‘fishing’.
The jetty is a great spot for catching squid. October and November are the best months for fishing off the pier, but good catches can be had at any time of year.
Nearby Swan Bay is shallow and is a perfect area for safe breeding grounds for flathead, garfish, whiting and snapper and good hauls can be found there.
At the moment, anglers are catching whiting up to 40cm and are reporting hauls of pinkies and the odd Australian salmon.
St Leonards is a great drawcard for anglers all over, but it’s the locals who get to take advantage of this superb spot 12 months a year.
Whether it’s from the pier, from land or out on a boat, the fishing has never been better here.
