Rache pens first book

Rach Hely has launched her first book.

Barwon Heads yoga instructor Rache Hely has released her first book.

A self-confessed ‘yogi hack’ Rache’s teaching career spans over 16 years, both in Australia and overseas and her book ‘So, A Year in Yoga’ contains 52 stories, one for every week of the calendar.

“I started speaking my stories 10 years ago while teaching yoga classes,” Rache said.

“This was before yoga was a ‘thing’ and when mindfulness was still something only for witches and hippies.”

About seven years ago, Rache’s students encouraged her to collate her stories into a book.

Rache said the response to the book had been “overwhelmingly amazing”.

“I’ve been humbled by how the words have touched so many people,” she said.

“I spend about two hours a week tapping on the keyboard or scribbling on post-it-notes around the house.”

Rache said the process was “exciting in a weird way”.

“It was exciting to work with local photographers (Simone Clarke and Samantha Firestone from Stokify digital) to create something that is really quite beautiful to hold,” she said.

“Also excruciatingly uncomfortable. To put yourself out there is hard. Pressing send on the final draft took two weeks of procrastination and tea drinking.”

‘So A Year in Yoga’ is available at Barwon Heads Yoga, Bookgrove, One thousand and one things, Rasta Surf Co, High Tide Yoga and Movement and barwonheadsyoga.com.au.
